Bayero: Dialogue with Boko Haram, Reps tell FG

The House of Representatives yesterday passed a resolution calling on the Federal Government to embrace dialogue in resolving the present insecurity in the country.

The call followed the adoption of a motion under matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Rep Muhammad Bashir Galadanchi (PDP, Kano) over Saturday’s attack on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

Galadanchi described the incessant attacks, killings and kidnappings in the country as worrisome.

He said that the security and welfare of the people as stipulated in Section 14 (2) (b) of the Constitution should be the primary purpose of government and as such it won’t be out of place for the Federal Government to dialogue with the sect.

MPs observed that emphasises on military action, arrests and imprisonment by the Federal Government “have limited effectiveness and escalated trends of insecurity indicated that they are only short-term solutions.”

While commiserating with the Emir and the families of those killed in the attack, the House called for long-term solutions.

The house had on 28th of November, 2012 passed a similar resolution after an attack on the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) detention centre in Abuja.

Meanwhile, the house has urged relevant security agencies to quickly initiate action toward identifying 40 corpses discovered in the Ezu River in Awka North Local Government of Anambra.

The call followed a motion by Rep. Chukwuemeka Nwogbo ( APGA-Anmbra), which was adopted without debate.
