120 Ghanaian soldiers for Mali

The Ghanaian Armed confirmed said at the weekend that it was ready to dispatch some of its personnel to join ECOMOG troops, currently on peace mission to Mali.

According to the Ghanaian Armed Force, a total of 120 soldiers were poised to leave for the beleaguered West African nation as soon as they were given the nod to move.

Mainly construction officials, earmarked to provide support services in the form of provision of electricity and construction of camp and fences for security buildings and other logistics.

The Ghanaian Armed Forces spokesman, Colonel Mbawine Atintandem, revealed that the officers were adequately trained to provide support services to the troops, and weather the onerous task associated with war.

Atintandem revealed that the troops would remain in Mali until the restoration of peace to the crisis ridden country. He added that each batch of peace keepers was expected to remain in Mali for at least a period of six months.

Meanwhile a public affairs commentator and publisher, Mr. Kwesi Pratt, has questioned the readiness of Ghanaian troops for the herculean task of restoring peace in one of West African hot spots.

He urged the Ghanaian Armed Forces to ensure that only officers who were psychologically ready should be deployed, so as to avoid casualties.
