Jonathan: Security challenges under control

President Goodluck Jonathan says the current security challenges facing the country ‘under control.’

Jonathan, represented by the Minister of State for Defence, Olusola Obada, made the remarks Friday after decorating 45 two-star generals with their insignias in Abuja.

He said inter-agency cooperation among the security forces was vital in counter terrorism and urged the agencies to “foster stronger ties” in tackling securing challenges.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim, said “terrorism will be is a thing of the past.”

A total of eight officers promoted to the rank of Air Commodore in November 2012 were decorated by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh. They are John Kwasau Baba, Tunde Ayewole, Emmanuel Festus, Adams Madaki, Sadiq Isa Kaita, Owotomi Olugbenga Gbadebo, Frank Goodness and Abubakar Bala.

He urged the officers to be security conscious adding that they should see themselves always as security agents.

He said the Boko Haram sect has no respect for all religions and tribes. “Boko Haram knows no religion, knows no tribe. In the recent bombings in Jaji, six Muslims died. We are all security men. Keep your eyes open.”
