Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital commences kidney transplant this year

Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital,UDUTH Sokoto, is to begin renal transplant this year. Chief Medical Director of the hospital Dr.Yakubu Ahmed disclosed this yesterday while receiving members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists ,NUJ Sokoto council who were on assessment visit to the institution.
“Towards the end of this year, we will start kidney transplant”, he said.
He said medical personnel from the hospital are being trained in India towards this end. The CMD said already two batches have undergone training adding that the third batch would commence three months training in February.
According to him, they will start the kidney transplant with existing facilities in the hospital before the new building is ready.
He said as part of long term plans, they are also working towards the commencement of nuclear medicine, among others. The CMD stressed the determination of the hospital to provide required healthcare services so that people do not have to travel abroad for treatment.
