No one is safe – Tinubu, Kalu, Gaya

Former Lagos State governor and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Bola Tinubu, has described the Saturday attack on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, as a most frightening dimension in the attacks unleashed by suspected terrorists on Nigerians and prominent leaders.

He said the attack suggested that there is no hiding place and no one is safe until the government tackles the problem of insecurity.

“Nigeria has sunk to a new low in insecurity,” Tinubu said yesterday in a statement he issued, adding that, “Nigeria continues to bleed, while those charged with protecting their lives flounder and fiddle in their response to a problem that could undermine national security and endanger our young democracy.”

Tinubu stated that the pipeline disasters and deaths, the bombings of churches and mosques, the car accidents on our roads and the ravaging fire disasters signpost a nation bleeding from many places.

Also yesterday, the former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kanu, described those behind the attack as mindless.

Kalu, in a statement by his spokesman, Oyekunle Oyewunmi, said the attack also amounted to disrespect for the traditional institution, which the referred monarch represents.

He said: “It is unimaginable that Alhaji Bayero, who is fully in support of the return of peace to the North that stands troubled because of the numerous crisis facing the region will be the target of the attackers.”

In his reaction, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (ANPP Kano South) condemned the attack.

In statement signed by Gaya’s spokesman, Prince Idris Afegbua, Gaya said the level of insecurity in the country is becoming alarming, saying all hands must be on deck to make the country safe.
