Man kills self by hanging in Bauchi

An unidentified man suspected to be aged between 20 and 25 was found hanging from a tree on Saturday morning near Wuntin dada village, a suburb of Bauchi Metropolis along Bauchi-Jos road in Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
A large crowd gathered at the scene of the incident to catch a glimpse of the man whose body was dangling on a branch of the tree but none of the spectators could identify the man at the time of filing this report.

A team of Policemen and Civil defense personnel removed the dead body around eight oclock in the morning and took it to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Twaching Hospital where he was officially pronounced dead by the doctor in charge of accident and emergency ward.

Police found on him an old bible, three separate pictures that showed him being baptized by a clergyman dated 1st September 2012 in water with jubilant people at the background taking pictures of the ceremony.

He was smiling in most of the pictures as he was being baptized by immersion.

It is not yet certain whether he left a suicide note or not but some papers were also seen within a polythene bag found near the body,

Daily Trust gathered that a handset was also found on the deceased and the police are trying to use it to trace people who may have information concerning his identity.

In his account of the incident the village head of Miri Alhaji Samaila Inuwa said he was at home when the news reached him that a man was seen hanging on a tree near the village, “I went there but I could not identify him, But he was young and it is so sad, I want to appeal to people to have faith in God no matter what they are going through in life rather than taking their own lives.”

A sympathizer, Adamu Wunti reporters that when he got to the scene he met the man dangling on the branch of the tree.

“I saw a lot of people and travellers who stopped their cars watching the body hanging there.

“His legs were touching the ground and the number of people kept increasing till the police came to remove his corpse.”
