Yobe council chiefs sworn in

All the new chairmen of the 17 local government management committees in Yobe State were sworn in yesterday in Damaturu.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam warned that any chairman found wanting in the discharge his duties would be shown the way out and handed over to law enforcement agents for appropriate action
He said the reappointment of some of them was based strictly on their performance in project execution while the appointment of fresh ones was based on their good character, transparency and hard work in their various endeavours.
The governor, therefore, charged to always get their priorities right by identifying critical areas that require immediate government intervention.
“Councils are expected to give attention to activities such as opening Fadama farms, provision of water pumps, seedlings and animal traction, as well as purchase of Keke NAPEP and sewing machines for distribution to their people at subsidized rates with a view to creating job opportunities and empowering youths to be self reliant,” he said.
He said to ensure commitment and transparency in the conduct of government business he would monitor closely the way and manner they run the affairs of their councils.
