Phones for farmers to end corruption in agric —Minister

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Ade-sina yesterday said the introduc-tion of mobile phones for farmers has helped in ending 40 years of corruption in the procurement and distribution of fertilisers in the country.
The minister recently came under public criticism for his proposed 10 million phones for farmers.
According to a statement by the spokesman of the ministry, Salisu Na’inna Danbatta, the minister made the statement while receiving the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Mr. Rajiv Shah during a courtesy call in Abuja.
He said the distribution of mobile phones to deliver agro-inputs to farmers through the e-Wallet policy has ended years of corruption in the agriculture procurement and distribution of fertilisers by the Federal Government.
In his remarks, Khan attributed the success so far achieved in transforming the sector to the minister’s commitment.
