The peace and reconciliation committee set up by the northern State governors forum to bring unity and peace in the region is a waste of resources, the President of TEKAN churches in Nigeria, Reverend Emmanuel Dziggau has said.
Dziggau said that TEKAN churches made up of 14 denominations with a population of over 25 million people had no representatives in the committee.
“With only the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Cardinal John Onaiyekan and Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto as members of peace and reconciliation committee, who has no grabs of what is happening in the grass roots, this process will be a waste of resources because many of the stakeholders have not been included,” Dziggau stated.
According to him, the religious leaders selected to proffered Solution on the problem affecting the north are leaving in comfort zones and did not have the grabs of what the grass root people in the north-east faces and call on the northern state governors to stop what he described as ‘wasting of resources in un fruitful committees’.
Speaking through his media assistant Sunday Oibe, Dziggau said “Northern Governors are doing self service. They should have brought in people like Sheik Zakzaky, Dahiru Bauchi and the President of TEKAN with about 25 million worshippers in the North”.
According to him, ‘the governors of Northern Nigeria should stop wasting resources in bringing people who has no direct bearing with the issue of reconciliation or peace in the north.’
