‘Kidnapped FCT Auditor General paid N10m ransom’

The Auditor General of the Federal Capital Territory [FCT] kidnapped last November in Igbanke village of Edo state, Fred Omaka paid the kidnappers N10 million to secure his release.

This was disclosed by the state Director Department of State Security [DSS] Mallam Bello Tukur Bakori while parading the suspected kidnappers of Omaka and other criminals before Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole at the department office in Benin Wednesday.

Bakori told the state governor that the DSS was able to retrieve N2 million from the kidnappers promising that they will soon be charged to court.

Those arrested over the kidnap of the FCT auditor general are; Peter Omoregbe and Oshofa Karimu while one of the suspects, Isaac Osherenua was shot dead.

He thanked the governor for the support given to the state security which he said helped in fighting crime in the state.

Responding, Oshiomhole thanked the DSS for their untiring efforts in fighting crime in the state.

He said over 400 kidnappers have so far been arrested in the state in the last two months ‘an indication that the state is no longer safe for kidnappers’.

The governor said he had already told President Goodluck Jonathan that more than 80 percent of criminals in the state had been flushed out by the combined team of DSS and the military.
