Sokoto realized only 30% projected 2012 IGR

Sokoto state government was able to realise only 30 percent of the projected Internally Generated Reve-nue (IGR) in 2012. About N15 billion was projected as IGR last year.

Speaking after the con-clusion of Budget defence by ministries and agencies, chairman Sokoto state House of Assembly committee on Finance and Appropriation, Murtala Attahiru Wurno noted that only 30 percent of the projected internal revenue was realized.

“We focused our discussion on the internal revenue generation of the state. Our committee observed that in 2012, only 30 percent of the projected internal revenue was realized,” he stated.

The committee chairman noted that the same projec-tion was maintained in the 2013 budget saying, “we questioned why the internal revenue board maintained the projection considering the fact that only 30 percent of the projected revenue was realized, they informed us that there are series of preparation and measures to be taken by the Board of Internal Revenue in order to realize appreciable percentage of the projected internal revenue”.

He stressed the need for the board to intensify efforts in revenue generation. According to him, the 2012 budget defence was held successfully.

All the house sub-committees are to submit their reports to the main committee on Finance and Appropriation before 22nd January for presentation to the whole house.
