Assembly commends Niger gov on poverty rating

The Niger State House of Assembly has commended Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu for the state’s positive rating on poverty by the National Bureau of Statistics.

NBS in its poverty profile for 2010 rated the state as being with the lowest relative and absolute poverty rate in the country.

The commendation was made in a motion moved by member representing Rijau constituency Mohammed A Nazeer, with seven co-sponsors, namely Mohammed Lokoja (Wushishi), Jummai Jafaru (Chanchaga) Yussuf Kure Baraje (Paikoro), Ibrahim Ndaman (Katcha), Jibrin Bawa (Suleja) and Jacob Majin Gana (Lavun).

Nazeer said the positive rating of the state is an indication that Governor Aliyu has been delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

Seconding the motion, Jacon Majin Gana said it is an indication that the executive arm was doing well in the implementation of the Ward Development Programme projects and the execution of the Millennium Development Goals projects.

Other members who spoke during a debate on the motion said the state government’s programmes had endeared the administration to the citizenry of the state.

In his comments, speaker of the House, Adamu Usman, commended his colleagues for being frank in their contributions and for their ability to shun political sentiments.
