‘FAAN wants peace with car hire operators’

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) yesterday said it was prepared to mend fences with the car hire operators at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
James Shallangwa, the Head of Commercial Department of the authority, said this in an interview in Abuja.
He said there had been mis-understanding between the association and the authority over the payment of concessions by the members of the association.
He said the management decision to fetch out the trouble makers and get them out of FAAN permanently would pave way for other reforms to take place.
Chris Bature, FAAN’s Regional General Manager, said the asso-ciation of car hire operators was supposed to pay part of its turnover to the authority and another N20,000 charged per annum on each registered car to enable the operators unfettered access into the airport premises.
On his part, the national president of the association, Ekwuemeaku Edom, said the authority’s position was a welcome development if the Federal Government could assist them in purchasing the kind of vehicles that would meet the standards required. (NAN)
