Senior advocate bags media award

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Constitutional lawyer, Chief Mike Ozhekome has been conferred with an award of excellence by Edo State Media Practitioners in Abuja.
Presenting the award on behalf of the body, the Coordinator and Secretary General of Edo Media Practitioners, Mr. Emmanuel Irioghe, said Chief Ozekhome was carefully chosen for the award for his long standing relationship with the media on the same side of struggles and agitations for a just and equitable society.
In his reply, Ozhekome recalled that he rose from a humble background, to acquire education which he said is the bedrock of any meaningful development and drive to succeed in life
“My story is that popular but humble grass to grace story, typical of an average Nigerian, who against all economic and socio-cultural odds and background, desperately seek for a change fortune,” he said.
Ozekhome, who is well know as a civil right advocate and activist, was part of the founding members of the Civil Liberty Organization (CLO) and like late Gani Fawehinmi, championing the fight against human right violations, and abuses, attributed his achievements to the cooperation of the media.
“Without the media, the Nigerian society would not have been where it is today, but for the check and balancing on the society and as watchdog of government policies and programmes, right from the military regime to the democracy we practice now,” he noted.
