Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has implored President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly to urgently implement the Justice Abdullahi Bello’s Presidential Committee report on harmony in the health sector. TUC, which made the call at the end of its National Executive Council meeting which held in Benin, Edo state recently, said implementing the report would tame the incessant unrest in the nation’s health sector.
A communiqué signed by its President General Comrade Peter Esele and Secretary General Barrister Musa Mohammed, advised President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the causes of unrest by unions in the sector.
Speaking on the national health bill before the National Assembly, TUC urged the lawmakers to ensure that professional associations and registered trade unions in the health sector are included in the relevant organs and technical committees of the federal ministry of health to ensure robust policy formulation and ensure industrial harmony in the sector.
It added that the various opinions expressed at the bill’s public hearing by all stakeholders should be reflected in the final law to be enacted in the interest of the general public, while commending the government for the approval of payments of terminal benefits to electricity employees in the country.
However, it advised government to build confidence in the process by ensuring the participation of electricity sector unions in the compilation and computation of the benefits of employees.
