Minister moves to ratify maritime labour convention

The Minister of Labour and Productivity Chief Emeka Wogu has commenced the process of ratifying the International Labour Organisation Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC2006) through a special session of the National Labour Advisory Council (NLAC), held in Abuja.
The ratification will ensure safety and improved wellbeing of maritime workers and seafarers in Nigeria.
Wogu said the step was another milestone aimed at generating and sustaining industrial peace and harmony which he said was pivotal for the attainment of the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“This meeting marks for us another milestone in our efforts at generating and sustaining industrial peace and harmony so necessary to the attainment of the present administration’s Transformation Agenda,” he said.
The occasion also witnessed the inauguration of three committees of NLAC to mainstream the NLAC into the National Development Agenda, review industrial relations practice in Nigeria and review the constitution of NLAC in line with current developments in labour administration.
