Sanitation: Oyo intensifies demolition of illegal structures

Oyo State Government has intensified the demolition of illegal structures and shanties across the state as it took the exercise to the Lagos-Ibadan toll-gate area where a petroleum dealer, Fola Oil Limited, was directed to stop work on an on-going construction of structures under the PHCN high tension wire.

The Commissioner for Environment and Habitat, Barrister Lowo Obisesan, who was represented by his assistant on politics, Mr. Muyiwa Olaoye, gave the directive while addressing traders at the area.

He ordered the traders to evacuate trading activities from under the high tension wire for the safety of their lives, stressing that they should make use of the place already provided by the government.

The commissioner said that the state government did not send any public officer to issue forms or collect money from the traders in the name of the government.

In an earlier weekly environmental exercise in the state, the commissioner ordered the sealing up of two shops, a bank and a petrol station situated at Iwo road for not complying with the state’s weekly environmental order.

The commissioner added that goods seized would no longer be returned to their owners but would be destroyed as directed by the state governor.
