Basic education is problematic - Don

Prof. Mohammed Salihu Audu,  former vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, has said the weak structures on which primary and secondary education are set, are the cause for the fallen standard of education in Nigeria.

At a reception organised in his honour by friends of Audu in Abuja at the weekend, the don said while the federal government is tackling the dwindling fortunes of the Nigerian educational system, “it should pay more than the usual attention to primary and secondary education.”

 On his achievements as vice-chancellor of FUT Minna, the mathematics scholar said he “was dedicated to his work and followed due process.”

Earlier, Prof. Adebisi Balogun who represented the chairman of the occasion, Prof. Julius Okogie, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), said Prof. Audu transformed the administrative, architectural and academic landscape of FUT Minna in a space of five years.
