UNILAG to commence postgraduate course on security, terrorism

The University of Lagos said on Tuesday that it would commence a postgraduate course on security and terrorism in its 2013/2014 academic session.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello, who made the remark during an interview said this was geared towards addressing the country’s security challenges.
He said the university is concerned about the security situation in the country and is willing to contribute its best to improve the situation.
``Actually, we have programmes on security which are degree programmes; at the moment, we are working through a process of establishing some courses at the postgraduate level.
``This initiative is solely aimed at taking over issues of security challenges in the country. Having said this, however, I wish to state that the process is not yet finalized but they are in the works,’’ Bello said.
He gave assurance that by the next academic session, the courses would take off in full, adding that presently, there are various courses offered by the institution that cover various aspects of security challenges.
Bello explained that the courses were already assisting in the training and retraining of most of the institution’s security officers.
Bello added that there were also researches and other programmes that the institution was currently working on to address security challenges. (NAN)
