Newly-inaugurated senators and House of Representatives members had a proceeded on recess a day after their inauguration to enable the settlement of their various allowance packages, office allocations as well as sitting arrangement at the chambers. However, barely a week to that, information of about the N9 billion allowances for the lawmakers broke, which drew the anger of Nigerians. And despite the clarification by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) chairman Elias Mbam that the actual amount for the allowance was N506,600, the matter has continue to generate reactions. In view of this therefore, a lawmaker from Ebonyi state, Rep Iduma Igariwey told Daily Trust yesterday that the calls to slash down their allowances were all but misplaced priorities. He said the lawmakers would not be deterred or swayed by the talks about their allowances when they resume tomorrow, even as he stressed that all the governors of the federation enjoy huge sums as security votes without any complain.
