Don’t compromise on PIB, Belgore urges lawmakers

Former Chief Justice of the Federation Alfa Belgore has urged lawmakers to consider Nigeria first in passing the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) at the National Assembly, before considering any other interest.

Belgore, who is also the Chairman, Governing Board of the International Institute for Petroleum Energy Laws and Policy, said on Wednesday during the unveiling of the programme of the Institute for 2013 that Nigeria needs more profits to take care of its huge infrastructural deficits.

He said for a very long time Nigeria was not getting its right share in the oil revenue and the little that it received were mismanaged.

Belgore made a reference on the attempt by the last National Assembly to pass the last PIB which would have been a great disaster for the country.

“The last National Assembly purported to pass one bill which would have been a disaster for the country. The country will be getting the minimum and the foreign companies will just be milking us every day,” he said.

He said the oil and gas will play a vital role in “reviving the economy of this country if well managed.
