Sanusi elected chair of WAMZ central banks

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was yesterday elected the new Chairman of Governors of the West African Monetary Zones (WAMZ) Central Bank Chairman.
He succeeded the former Chairman, Dr Joseph. Mills Jones, Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia.
Speaking in Abuja after the 28th meeting of Committee of Governors of Central Banks of WAMZ, the CBN Governor reiterated the importance of the need for a continuous, objective and comprehensive review of the economic conditions of member states to ascertain the level of their preparedness for the establishment of a sustainable monetary union in the zone.
“It is imperative for us at this meeting to objectively examine the numerous challenges before us, draw on the experiences of other monetary unions and critically appraise our levels of preparedness to enable us work more assiduously towards meeting our 2015 launch date,” he said.
