Government shouldn’t be largest employer of labour - Gov. Amosun

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has said that government at all levels should not be the biggest employer of labour but create right atmosphere for businesses to thrive.
Amosun stated this while speaking at an event in Lagos.
Speaking through the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Wemimo Ogunde (SAN), Amosun said the service industry and manufacturing sector should absorb the working populace more than the three tiers of government put together.
“I want to restate that government need not be the largest employer of labour. All that the government needs to do is to create the right atmosphere for investments and opportunities to flourish. The service industry and manufacturing sector could employ more people than all the governments put together,” Amosun said.
The governor however appreciated that there are certain policies that must be put in place to let the service industry function, optimally.
“The service industry alone could be the largest employer of labour, but the right policies have to be in place. There should be regular electricity and good infrastructure. Without a sound economy, the people are vulnerable and their ability to fight for their rights is already impaired,” Amosun said.
