Senator Smart Adeyemi, representing Kogi West Senatorial district has lost his bid to return to the senate for the third time to Dino Melaye of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly election.
Dino scored 41, 120 votes to defeat Senator Adeyemi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who came second with 38,148 votes. Also, Senator Aidoko Idoko representing Kogi East senatorial district and Senator Nurudeen Abatemi, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District were also defeated by Abdulrahman Abubakar and Senator Muhammed Ohiere of the APC respectively. Abdulraman of the APC scored 98,915 to defeat Senator Aidoko who polled 88,994 votes while Senator Ohiare also of APC scored 55, 776 votes to defeat the PDP candidate Ahmed Salau Ogembe who scored 42, 736 votes and the incumbent senator Abatemi. Meanwhile, the APC also won six out of the nine House of Representatives seat in the state.
